Singer John Nathan Larkin, a member of the band Catahoulas, died Sunday, according to his family.
The singer died at his home in the town of Larkspur, according a release from the Larkspawne Baptist Church.
Larkin was 64.
A statement released by the church said Larkin died from complications from diabetes.
He was from Larkspit, Louisiana, according the release.
Larkspot is located about 70 miles southeast of New Orleans.
The church said his parents, Bob and Lina, have asked that their privacy be respected.
“He was the most beloved of the family and we extend our condolences to his loved ones,” the statement said.
The Larkspace Baptist Church said the church was also in mourning.
“We have lost a friend of the church,” the release said.
Larkings death comes as the country’s second-largest city grapples with a high number of shootings.
On Saturday, two people were killed and three others were wounded in a shooting in the city’s Little Rock area.
The latest shooting happened about 7:45 p.m.
Monday in the 4100 block of South St. James Boulevard in the Buckhead neighborhood.
No one was immediately in custody.
