President Donald Trump’s longtime campaign manager has denied allegations he bullied the Washington Post reporter who broke the news that he was going to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.
In a statement to the Associated Press, campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said the reporter “has every right to do so” and that “there is absolutely no merit” to the allegations.
Hicks added that the campaign and the reporter are in communication.
Trump fired Mueller in May after it was revealed that the former FBI director was examining the Trump campaign’s dealings with Russia.
Trump, meanwhile, has maintained his innocence, despite the fact that a special counsel appointed by the Senate last month was investigating his former campaign.
Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
